Home Progetto/Project Giacomo Pirazzoli Guido Guerzoni Alessandra Lanciotti Roll-on Legal framework Links Contacts	It is well known that “Museum”, as a concept, was created in the 19th Century and since then it was interpreted as a container which entails the separation of the displayed works of art from the rest of the world, hence  an “elsewhere” par excellence,  an a-topia as far as possible. SISMUS RESEARCH WORKSHOP - a multidisciplinary research network both nationally and internationally oriented – has been created to investigate the museum of the next future in the light of contemporary issues, by taking into account the architectural, environmental, economic, operational and legislative aspects.  As a matter of fact, the presence of both globalizing trends and local hyper-identities, as well as the generally critical reappropriation of concepts such as “place”, “migration”, “nomadism”, hardly finds a significant interpretation by the Institutions, particularly in Italy, where due to a chronic lack of structural investments – apart from few isolated exceptions -  museums can only take care of the mere “conservation”. Following autonomous paths, even before the end of the last century, contemporary art research has investigated and thematized the “site-specific” as an “artwork created to exist in a certain place”: if we venture to extent this concept to the museum, we will get the site-specific museum as a museum created to exist in a certain place, which will certainly be different from the many styled museums that are still built without considering places and occasions. Moreover, if we want to think about some precise case-study (like that of the Cortona Fortress we have) e.g. placed in Italy or in another such dense cultural-heritage area, it may be possible to adapt the concept of site-specific museum to many of the existing historical buildings which can be transformed into “museums”; but there are at least two main questions at stake: may an ancient building – both because of its history and architecture - be reconverted as a “museum about itself” by developing sustainable activities and productive strategies adjusted to the basic structure? by this statement may we reconsider for instance the world famous Uffizi Gallery as a building created for public administration, then transformed into an “art collection” (i.e. a museum 18th Century style), with a huge question mark concerning its  fruition by  the contemporary generation?		Come è noto il concetto di “museo” è nato nell'Ottocento, fin da subito inteso quale “contenitore” che comporta la separazione delle opere esposte rispetto al resto del mondo, dunque “luogo altro” per eccellenza, a-topìa per quanto possibile. SISMUS research workshop è un network di ricerca multidisciplinare orientato in senso nazionale ed internazionale che – considerando gli aspetti architettonico-ambientali ed allestitivi, quelli economico-gestionali fino al panorama legislativo – intende indagare il museo prossimo venturo alla luce delle istanze della contemporaneità. La compresenza, infatti, di spinte globalizzanti e di iperidentità localistiche, come pure in generale la riappropriazione critica di concetti quali “luogo” “migrazione” “nomadismo” da qualche tempo sembrano faticare a trovare significativa interpretazione da parte delle Istituzioni preposte, particolarmente in Italia dove per cronica carenza di investimenti strutturali – salvo eccezioni isolate - i musei riescono appena ad occuparsi della mera “conservazione”. Per autonomi percorsi la ricerca artistica contemporanea, già prima della fine del secolo scorso, ha indagato e tematizzato il “site-specific” as an “artwork created to exist in a certain place”: estendendo per azzardo questo concetto al museo, avremmo il site-specific museum as a museum created to exist in a certain place, certamente diverso dai molti musei styled come griffe d'autore che tuttora vengono costruiti indifferentemente da luoghi ed occasioni. Inoltre, se vogliamo lavorare su un caso-studio preciso (come quello che abbiamo scelto, la fortezza di Cortona), per esempio in Italia o in altro luogo così denso per presenza di beni culturali, potrebbe essere possibile adattare il concetto di site-specific museum a molti degli edifici storici esistenti che possono essere trasformati in “musei”; ma allora due questioni emergono: un edificio antico – sia per la sua storia che per la sua architettura - può essere riconvertito in “museo di se stesso” sviluppando lì attività sostenibili e strategie di produzione adatte alla struttura di base? attraverso questo assunto, possiamo riconsiderare per esempio la famosissima Galleria degli Uffizi come edificio creato per la pubblica amministrazione, successivamente trasformato in “collezione d’arte” (ovvero museo in stile 19° secolo) con un grande punto interrogativo che riguarda la sua fruizione da parte della generazione contemporanea?
